Education Tulare County and the San Joaquin Valley offer a full range of educational programs. The system consists of city-unified school districts, county school districts, community colleges, four-year universities and a number of private business and trade schools.  There is even an Artisan School, the Sierra Forge and Fire that offers classes in artistic blacksmithing, bladesmithing, and glassblowing.

Community Colleges

Porterville Community College and College of the Sequoias offer training for students planning to continue their education and provide courses in specific occupations such as teaching, business administration, agriculture, and nursing. San Joaquin Valley College, a private junior college in Tulare County offers 23 different programs in the Medical, Business and Technical fields.

Cal State Fresno

Cal State University Fresno, an accredited four-year institution, has a satellite campus at College of the Sequoias located in Tulare County. The University has 26 nationally accredited departmental programs—among the most offered in the 23-campus California State University system.

 

University of California Davis

University of California Davis offers extension classes, correspondence courses, local medical training and agricultural research programs throughout Tulare County.

 

Chapman University

Chapman University, founded in 1861, offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs at their Tulare County campus and offers accelerated nine-week terms throughout the year.

University of Phoenix

University of Phoenix (UOP), the largest private university in North America, offers classes at its Visalia location.
Fresno Pacific University

Fresno Pacific University is the Central Valley’s only accredited Christian university, offering leading academic programs, ethical and spiritual development through traditional bachelor’s degree, adult degree completion, master’s certificate and credentialing programs.
Cal State Bakersfield

Cal State Bakersfield is a fully accredited four-year institution of higher learning only an hour to the south of Tulare County.
